50 Cardiff and Vale Health Board staff have signed up to run the Cardiff Half marathon on behalf of the UHB’s official Charity.
The Cardiff and Vale Health Charity secured a number of running places in the Cardiff Half Marathon this year and invited staff to apply to become a member of their team. In total 50 people applied and it was decided to give each of them a free running place and in return they have been asked to raise a minimum of £150. The runners were able to choose to help one of Health Boards hospitals, a particular department or fund, or the general Make it Better Fund.
Lucie Barrett, Senior Fundraising Officer for the Charity said,
"We are delighted by the response to our recent appeal for staff members to run the 2015 Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon for the UHB official Charity, More than 50 staff applied and they have all secured a running space.
"Knowing your run will help others, gives a huge boost to the satisfaction you'll feel on finishing the race. You'll also be more highly motivated during your training and the race itself."
The Cardiff and Vale Health Charity has over 300 endowment funds that are managed by health care specialists who use the funds to develop research, treatment and patient care. The 'Make it Better Fund' is the charities general fund that supports projects across all of the Cardiff and Vale hospitals, health centres and community teams that are nominated by staff or identified as areas that need priority funding.
"As well as raising money, running for our charity will help raise awareness. You'll be seen by thousands of people wearing our charity's logo on race day, and everyone who sponsors you will learn more about the charity and the great work we do.
"Charities rely on this kind of public exposure to build a good reputation and encourage people to donate. However much you raise, your contribution will make a massive difference to our charity and the people it helps."
Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting some of the team runners and the charities they are running for.
